New Year's resolutions

This time of year most people think about improving their lives in the New Year to come.

The funny thing is that most of us have the same resolutions.

24% of the Dutch people want to lose weight in the upcoming year.
A good second is spending more time on doing sport,
followed closely by eating healthier stuff and stop smoking.

I'm in for losing a few pounds. How about you?

Sinterklaas

On December 5th the Dutch celebrate 'Sinterklaas'.

Mid November Sinterklaas and his loyal servant Piet go on board,
and sail to the Netherlands on a boat filled with presents.

Upon arrival Sinterklaas mounts a white horse. When it's getting dark he and his servant climb the roofs,
and listen at all chimneys to find out where the good children live.

>

Before going to bed Dutch children put their shoes near the fireplace,
filled with a carrot for the horse.

Then they sing their most wonderful songs to please Sinterklaas.

Next morning the good children find their presents. The bad guys get nothing though.
